How To: Upgrade iPod OS using ipsw file (Windows)

Besides, upgrading iPod OS firmware using iTunes, you can also install the upgrade using ipsw file  (Windows Version). The following is a simple guide to install the upgrade:
  1. Update iTunes to latest version
  2. Connect iPod (Nano/Touch), create data backup.
  3. On iTunes side bar, select your iPod.
  4. Press and hold “SHIFT” and click Restore.
  5. Locate the *.ipsw file to start the upgrade process.
  6. Follow the iTunes instructions.
