Spa Business Model

Posted on | October 29, 2010 | No Comments

After looking at our service industry, especially the ones that are in the lime light, the taking over of True Spa by Subtle Senses, and liquidation of Subtle Senses, I seriously feel that there are little or no protection to customers who are the victims.

All of them employed the same business model, basically, they will ask you down for a free trial, and started to hard sell their services or products, telling us that this is an one time offer, that you never get it else where. They will emphasize it with the ala carte pricing comparison. Then, us as the customers will think that it is a fantastic deal! More than 50% off….

Wait! That’s the point! They are toying with our brain, sales tactics are always bias! We always think that it is a great deal, however, ever ask yourself the question “What’s the base cost of the service?” Most of us, will sign up the package, and blindly think that they will honour their services. C’mon, get real! What make you think that they will honour their service when they are low in cash flow? What make you think that you are not the guinea pig to sign up, so that they can survive another day?

Frankly, till today, I felt that something more should be done to protect the customers. At least, the banks should flag red if the company is in bad state. This would mitigate new customers from signing up unknowingly… These people are simply blood suckers! So unethical in the conduct of their business! Worst of all, “Singapore Excellence Awards” plastered through the whole wall!

In my opinion, I felt that all the awards now are simply gimmicks to attract more business! They are no longer prestigious! It is all but money making tactics in a legal way. Therefore, I will definitely not sign up any form of packages with any big or small companies in future, because who knows, by spending money in advanced may, in general, create more inconvenience and irritation, than relaxation you sought for.

Being a while since I last updated my blog… Quite busy with work lately to keep up the daily posting of interesting happenings.

Recently has being quite down with luck; injuries all over and my blogs are victimized by phishers. Hoping to flow up the SINE curve assuming it is at its trough now.

Being a while since I maintain my blog, it comes to my realisation that some of the plugins were not working.

Now they are all up and running:

Lifestream – Twitter feeds, do not enter password

WP-stats – 1.7.5 is not working, I downgraded to 1.7.3.

Amazon WishList – Amazon did some modification to its API, need to find another plugin to display my wishlist.

Comparing Starbucks and CoffeeBean Service

Posted on | October 9, 2010 | No Comments

Although, both sells coffee and tea, somehow, I realised that Starbucks will stay in the arena longer than CoffeeBean. I supposed it is the same feeling like Apple and Microsoft, although Microsoft dominate the market longer.

I feel that Starbucks provides the personal touch, they are more customer-oriented… The service style adopted by Starbucks will last alot longer than CoffeeBean.

Although, I have being with CoffeeBean for quite sometimes, I realised that the recent service staff have alot of problems, for instance, they are unfamiliar with their products, unfriendly attitude towards customers, possessing the “factory workers” mentality.

The lack of initiative is one of the biggest fall in service industry, we have evolved from 80s industrialisation to today’s knowledge economy, however, the service industry seems to be moving backwards into the past.

I find it surprising how companies screened and employed people to sell their products or services… For once, besides cutting cost from staffing, they should know that these service personnel are the ones that interface with the customers…. By having bad service attitude, over a long term, no customers will return… I supposed they do not understand that brand building is not the product/service but the people selling it. As such, a small pinch in spending more now, will generally increase the revenue in a long run, with continuous flow of returning customers.

In the long run, I will definitely go for Starbucks, than CoffeeBean… The CoffeeBean service is quite disappointing….
